The Place: Punta San Carlos is the dream. It's one of the planet's most legendary windsurf destinations, with consistent side-shore winds, perfectly shaped waves and the raw beauty of Baja's desert coastline. You are so disconnected from the modern world: no mains electric, no mains water, limited internet, nothing for miles around, nothing to distract you from quite possibly the most amazing down-the-line wave riding in the world. Glassy surf in the morning, followed by side-shore wave sailing in the afternoon.
Our partner: For Baja, Colin 'Whippy' Dixon joins forces with Martijn Lancee of Strike Mission Adventures. Martijn was raised surfing and windsurfing in Barbados, and he has since travelled to over 80 countries in search of the world's most iconic breaks. Now settled in Novato, California, he has turned his lifelong obsession with bringing his friends to the best spots into a profession, as the founder and operator of Strike Mission Adventures. Martijn loves Baja, and Punta San Carlos in particular. He specialises in guided trips to quiet, high-potential corners of the globe, where the only people on the water are you and your crew.

Coaching: This clinic runs for 2 weeks, with coaching on and off the water. We will be on the water every day focusing, of course, on wave riding.
level: This place is for out-and-out down-the-line wave riding on pretty big waves, so it's best if you already have the wave sailing basics.
conditions: The wind blows cross-off, so you gun along on a broad reach and choose your section to hit where the wave peaks along its kilometre-and-a-half length. With each run in, you will catch a wave with the potential to try a minimum of five turns, up to a maximum of twenty, so you waste no time improving and learning. When the 'system' is working, the wind blows all day and you will sail anything from a 3.7 to a 5.0. Otherwise there tends to be a thermal that comes in in the afternoon, allowing for some wobble and ride.

Hotel pick-up and drop-off in San Diego, at Best Western Americana Inn
Transport: a 2024 Toyota Sequoia towing a 12 x 7ft trailer with your windsurf coffin bags, our SUPs, surfboards, drinking/shower water, beers, food, snacks, a solar/battery-powered fridge, cooler, tables, chairs, fire pit, tents, etc., plus a passenger van for a comfortable drive down and back up the peninsula
Breakfast, lunch and dinner, unlimited drinks (beers included) and unlimited snacks. We'll send over the full menu one week before the trip. Expect healthy, protein-rich, nutrient-dense meals built to keep everyone fuelled.
Heavy-duty 23Zero Bandit Swag 1400 tents with foam sleeping pads (super comfy, and they don't make noise when you move in your sleep)
Solar-powered battery to charge electronics
Starlink internet (at least 1 hour a day for emails/WhatsApp)

All this in the absolute middle of nowhere in the Mexican desert!
Getting there: The trip begins and ends in San Diego. We'll pick you up at the hotel at 4:30am on the first day and drop you back there at the end of the trip. We'll cross the border at first light so we get you on the water before 4pm the same day. While you're scoring your first session, Martijn will set up basecamp and prep dinner, and the beer will be ice-cold.
Insurance: We recommend VDWS insurance for all of our clinics. It covers you worldwide for windsurfing and other sports and is totally worth it! Click here for more.... You'll also need international travel and health insurance.
Temp: IIt's boardshorts all the way on the beach, but a long winter suit on the water. It also cools down a lot at night, so bring a hoody, jeans, warm boots and maybe even a hat and gloves!
currency: Dollar. Everything at camp is included: meals, drinks and snacks.
what else to bring: W1 gear bag, plus 1 duffel bag with: passport, international travel & health insurance, wetsuit, harness, towel, sleeping bag, pillow, refillable water bottle, sunglasses, hat, warm jacket, long pants, shorts, headlamp, power bank, downloaded movies/music, and the liability waiver.
We will, as always, be doing plenty of video coaching sessions, so be sure to bring a BIG USB to take home all your footage. And bring a good book!
What else the area offers: There are some great mountain bike trails nearby. Other than that, you are in the middle of nowhere – relax!
