    Scottish Weekenders with Freshy

Not to point out the obvious but...It's been a pretty tricky year for us, as it has been for many businesses. We take for granted how easily we can travel around the world on our hunt for sun, perfect conditions and new destinations. We had to cancel mid way through our clinics in El Medano and then had to watch all the other clinics drop off the calendar one by one, it was pretty heart breaking. Luckily I got stuck in a pretty nice place, once we finished our quarantine,

Brandon Bay Delivers Again, Ireland 2019

For the third year running WSC headed to the beautiful Brandon Bay for what promised to be an amazing week. The forecast looked to be pumping, with some really windy days and waves predicted to hit 5m in height. The group met at the usual starting point for any great week in Brandon Bay, Spillanes Pub. The atmosphere was great, old acquaintances reminisced about the previous years and the new faces were warmly welcomed into the fold. There were more than one or two worried lo

THE place to learn to wave ride: Punta San Carlos, Baja 2019

First a run down of our epic guestlist: We had the Hulse family – Hugo 16, Max, 22 and their dad Steve. I was joined by two ripping ladies; Kathryn and Gilly, plus, David, Chris ‘Crocs’, Jon and Ironman Jason AKA ‘The Slayer’. We met in San Diego, as excited as a group of kids on a school trip to Disneyland, with the forecast looking good! The next part of this epic trip is taken on a small island hopper plane that takes us directly to Punta San Carlos, where Solo Sports have

Cape Town - Starting 2019 with a BANG

Wow, what a week I barely know where to start! First clinic of the year really putting us on the right foot for the rest of 2019. It is the second year that myself and Mr Ben Proffitt of Windsuring.TV have teamed up to bring you these clinics. Last year we had a great time out here and also learnt some things; namely, how we promoted the clinic. We sold it as a jumping clinic but in actual fact we ended up with lots of wave riding conditions and all round enjoyment and impr

Making the best of Jeri 2018

Jeri is hands down the most consistently windy place in the world that we run our clinics, but this year not only was it that unlucky ‘1-in-10’ year where the rain comes, but it came early! For the first time ever I was scared of starting the clinic as it was raining and there was no wind – I have never seen it before. I really didn’t think I would ever have to pull out my “Plan B” but you gotta do what you gotta do. We pack up the trailer with all the kit, which was only po

Brandon Bay 2018; They came from far and wide...

Our second year in Brandon Bay gave us a huge range of conditions; from storm chasing to wobble and ride, perfect clean waves and even a day of flat water. This 15 strong group of men and women, who were ready to get stuck in and enjoy any conditions that were offered, really made it a joy from start to finish. Saturday Night – The group met for a welcome meal at the famous Spillannes pub. With a banquet table spanning most of the length of the restaurant managing to squeeze

Perfect Conditions and Forward Loops in Moulay, Morocco 2018

What a fantastic trip this was, wind and waves every single day! Last year we didn’t score the most optimum conditions, we have massive waves everyday and the only day of wind was 3.7 whether… not an ideal intro to Moulay. Never-the-less we decided to give Moulay another go as we know how great it can be and with such an awesome host as Boujamaa what can go wrong? Absolutely nothing; man, did it shine! On our first day it could not have been better; comfortable size waves an

2 More Weeks in Heaven; Baja 2018

I don’t know if I mentioned it before but I was pretty excited for this trip. I have been around the world quite a bit in the last few years and last year I finally managed to fulfill a lifelong dream of going to Baja, and it was everything I hoped and dreamed it would be; 100% the best sailing of my life. So of course I immediately planned my return and was so eager I even convinced Solo Sports to open a week early for us. The beginning of the season is usually colder but

    Stunning Ireland 2017

The last time I was in Ireland was in 2000 and I had always wanted to go back so when Jamie Knox invited me over to run a clinic at Brandon Bay I jumped at the chance and we were not disappointed. It is always best to have your own transport as Brandon Bay has a number of spots, which work in different swell and wind directions, so it’s a ferry trip and cross country drive, which is magical enough in itself. Ireland is so beautiful; driving to the west coast you encounter su

The Childhood Dream; Baja, Mexico 2017

Since I first got in to wave sailing (so perhaps not a child, but close enough) we used to watch this VHS video of “Surface Tension”, Ian Boyd does the longest bodydrag anyone has ever witnessed, he just keeps going and going along this epic wave. We couldn’t believe our eyes and once we found out it was Baja, Mexico, it became the dream to sail there. The most amazing thing for me is that that place on the old VHS is still exactly the same, it hasn’t changed in about 25 yea
